EBI, Elevating Boats LLC, is expanding their fleet of liftboats by adding another 150' class liftboat. This will be their third 150' class liftboat bringing their fleet of liftboats to a total of 26. The construction of the "Walter Cure" liftboat, named after EBI's Vice President, began in February of 2011 and is set to launch in the second quarter of 2013.
Like many of EBI's mid-sized to bigger liftboats, The Walter Cure will focus on plug & abandonment operations as well as other shallow water liftboat operations such as wireline intervention and construction.
The Walter Cure will have one 30 ton marine crane, the EBI TC60-100, and one 50 ton fixed boom marine crane, the EBI C100-80. Both of these marine cranes will be machined, fabricated and assembled at their facility in Braithewaite, LA, less than 80 miles from EBI's corporate office and shipyard in Houma, LA.
This liftboat will also be outfitted with EBI's legendary 12-tooth pinion design, the GB82. There will be a total of 9 GB82 gearboxes (3 high on each leg) giving the Walter Cure a max deck load capacity of 200,000 lbs (90.72 mt). Most of their 12-tooth pinions will be machined in Braithewaite and other GB82 components will be fabricated at EBI's machining and fabrication facility in Ponchatoula, LA, less than 80 miles away from Houma.
EBI is known for their 12-tooth pinion gearbox design because of its efficiency and durability. Elevating Boats LLC General Manager, Sherwood Domangue, comments on the 12-tooth pinion design. “By having a 12-tooth pinion design, the teeth on the liftboat's leg have better contact with the 12-tooth gearbox yielding better jacking performance as well as better stabilization for the platform. Overall it's a better situation for the liftboat.
