The most attractive feature of the Robert liftboat, aside from it's leg length, is the ability to use a DP system - Dynamic Positioning System. MONTCO has integrated Kongsberg's dynamic positioning system on the Robert and have state that "Based on the testing during sea trials, we were very impressed with how accurate the Konsberg's DP system positioned the Robert. We are very excited to see this kind of technology being used with the Robert. It will mean a lot of opportunity for us in other regions."
When asked about the purpose of it's size and capabilities for decommissioning, Orgeron stated that, "We wanted the liftboat to be large enough to accommodate multiple phases of decommissioning such as the plug-and-abandonment stage, cutting and dismantling, and substructure disassembly. We can operate simultaneously, providing enough housing space, a dive group, a cutting and welding team, and more. We have consolidated resources saving time and costs for like operations."
Montco named the world’s “largest liftboat” after a member of the Orgeron family. Captain Robert McLuckie, who has been with the company since 1976. Mr. McLuckie currently battles his third round with lung cancer.
With the delivery of the Robert, this will bring MONTCO's fleet of liftboats to a total of seven liftboats. To learn more about MONTCO's new large liftboat, the Robert, and their fleet of liftboats, please visit their website at www.montco.com.
